To introduce nationwide the technique of minimally invasive Nuss procedure, “National Teaching Class on Chest Wall Orthopedic and Minimally Invasive Nuss Procedure” was held in Beijing Children’s Hospital, an affiliated hospital of Capital Medical University on 13th to 16th April,2007. In the meeting, Mr.Donald Nuss was invited. The procedure was developed by pediatric surgeon Donald Nuss at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia. Mr.Donald Nuss made 5 wonderful speeches and had an operation in field for demo. He had a wide exchange with specialists nationwide. Some famous Chinese specialists were invited, too. Professor He Yanru and professor Zeng Qi from Beijing Children’s Hospital, professor Hu Yanze and professor Liu Wenying from Huaxi Hospital of Sichuan University, professor Liu Jinfen from Shanghai Children Medical Center affiliated by Shanghai Transportation University, professor Li Jianhua from Children’s Hospital affiliated by Medical College of Zhejiang University and Chief Physician Chen Gang from Guangdong People’s Hospital attended the meeting and have made speeches on chest wall orthopedic and NUSS procedure. This shall be a great help for the introducing in China the NUSS procedure both in theory and in practice.

        More than 100 doctors from different parts of China attended the meeting. Some doctors from Singapore and Hong Kong were invited to the meeting, too.

        During the meeting, Professor Nuss had an interactive exchange with Chinese specialists and doctors and they have had a very deep discussion about the Nuss procedure in very details. Our Chinese specialists and doctors are so interested in Nuss procedure for its features of minimally invasive, small surgical incision , short operation time, no need to remove costal cartilage or sternum and easy to learn. Doctors who have no experiences in this procedure discussed so deeply with those who have had the chance to perform the operation. The perfect demo performed by Professor Nuss attracted the attention of all and this has become the best and direct interpretation to Nuss procedure.

    The meeting was ended in a warm discussion atmosphere. Many doctors in the meeting were from where no Nuss procedures and they are so eager to bring this technique back to serve better the patients by reducing their pains.
